Cognitive Christianity: It's Mental!
/In the body of Christ, there are some trying to be the head. They are living like the world, primarily out of their intellect and reason. They think that gathering more information will bring them closer to God. (The popular definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.) However, the more information that they get, speaks to their conscience and reveals their own wretchedness. It is the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. They sit as judges of themselves as sinners and then cast that same judgement on to others.
They then have an outward show of religion, but their inward life is empty. They think that having more information from the Bible and books will fill that emptiness. What is worse is when they need to show others how learned they are and lead others into the same emptiness. Paul warns against this, "having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. " (1 Timothy 3:5-7).
The issue is one of religion. And the Christian religion is the worst of all religions.
Why is this? It is because Christianity was never meant to be a religion: self-effort trying to get closer to God. Jesus came to set the captives free from dead-head-religion. With Himself, He crucified the religion of reason.
Jesus drew us into Himself and made us one with Himself--as His body--and His Father in the Spirit.
We are to live out of our spirits, being one spirit with the Lord. We are to learn out of our spirits, not our minds. Our minds simply receive what we already know in our spirits--and our spirits know all things.
"But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him" (1 John 2:27).
To learn out of our minds in relation to spiritual things is to be carnally minded and it is against God (Romans 8:7), even though it seems to be seeking Him. The Christian religion is the worst paradox. The Christian religion is anti-Christ; it is against the anointing (the Spirit of Christ). It in its insanity, tries to be the head, learning about God through reason not through the Spirit and power.
Scoffers, use the same line, "You are saying check my brain at the door." This reply shows that they are cognitive addicts. They need to see that their brains were crucified with Christ. They no longer have their minds, thoughts, opinions; they have the mind of Christ. Live only from it.
If you find yourself caught in head religion and tired of getting more information from books, courses and conferences; simply turn to the Lord, the Spirit, and ask for Him to take control of your life. Ask Him to show you Jesus and Abba. Ask Him to reveal all things. He is the Spirit of Truth. There is no other way to the Truth, except in Him.
He will show you that you cannot get any closer to God than you are and any holier than He has already made you. Rest and enjoy life in Holy Spirit, Jesus and Abba.
